Why should you listen to podcasts?
My life is pretty busy and intense. Is yours? I think all small business owners' lives are. The last thing you need in your life is yet another course that takes hours and weeks to complete. Or yet another great book, that you have absolutely no time to read. At the same time, you could definitely do better in your business if only you knew how to fix that problem that you're facing right now. This is where podcasts come in handy. They are the best way of making the most of your commute time, cooking time, tiding up time etc. Podcasts are a great way of learning something new, and not using any extra time of your day for it, all while being entertained!
In today's post, I would like to introduce to you a couple of my favourite podcasts for business owners and entrepreneurs.
'How I build this with Guy Raz'
~1 h episode. Best for inspiration. Good for beginners as well as experienced owners.
This is the first podcast I ever listened to, and I still do listen to it regularly. Every week Guy Raz interviews a business founder, trying to find out what were the difficulties that they have faced along the way and how did they sort them out. Since September 2016 he has hosted founders of Spanx, Instagram, VICE, Airbnb, Southwest Airlines and many more very well known brands. Listening to what they have to say can be very eye-opening, and it can definitely ease some of your worries: after all, everyone did start from zero. Just like you!
The Small Business Britain Podcast
~ 30 min episodes. Best for a growing business.
What I like about this podcast is that it is focused on British small business and real problems that small business owners encounter, as well as it gives you ideas on how to solve them. Many good business podcasts refer to the American realm and the tips and advice they give might sometimes be not applicable to British business. This podcast, created by Michelle Ovens, the founder of Small Business Britain (which was previously known as peak b) is the right choice for you if you own a business in Britain, and are committed to growing it.
The Small Business School
~ 20 min episodes. Best for a growing business.
This podcast is built on a similar concept to 'The Small Business Britain Podcast'. Although this one is made by and addressed to Americans, you can still learn a lot from it even if you build your business in a different country. The host, Craig Staley, who himself is an experienced business owner, interviews his guests to find out about their best advice on issues that they specialise in.
Marketing School
~ 7 min episodes. Best for learning marketing. For beginners and experienced owners.
The Marketing School podcast is hosted by Eric Su and Neil Patel and is best for those, who do not like to or have time to listen to long interviews. The hosts release a new episode every day. They make it super short and loaded with the information that you need. A lot of episodes are related to quite specific problems, so chances are you are not going to find all of them useful and applicable to your business, but with over 1500 episodes available so far you are bound to find something for you.
